Wednesday, June 10th

The trip from NH to AK was long.  Went well but long.  We started our day by rising at 3:45, grabbing those ever present last minute items and headed out.  Our first flight took us from Manchester, NH to Philadelphia, PA.  We had a fairly decent layover, so we took the time to grab a bite to eat.  Once we boarded the plane, we sat for a slight delay as there was an auxiliary power problem.  Then off we flew to Dallas,TX, arriving early in spite of the earlier delay.  The pilot drew our attention to Little Rock, AR as we flew over, but we did not see Cody, our son, from our vantage point.  Our Dallas switch did not have as much time, so we got right to our gate, and bought a couple of smoothies to start our last flight with.  I am glad we did as they do not serve complementary meals on these flights, and though I had packed snacks for this last flight, additional food was good.  Then, once again, we boarded the flight only to sit while they checked on an oil leak that raised some initial concern.  After an hour, they assured us everything was fine, and back into the wide blue sky we went.
Our arrival in Alaska was otherwise uneventful, and only half and hour late.  The views of the snow covered mountain peaks as we approached Anchorage were beautiful, but I am sure only a small taste of what we will be seeing in the next few weeks.

After collecting our two bags of luggage, we hailed a taxi to take us to the car rental place.  By this time it was after 8 PM and still nice and bright out!  Our driver was a delightful young man from Mali, West Africa, by way of France where he picked up a law degree.  He is currently working on obtaining an International Business degree.   Our next stop was Express Rental where we picked up our rental Ford Escape.  An older gentleman from India kept us entertained while the paper work was completed for the rental.  And lastly, we went just about a block away to the Puffin Inn, where we finally hit the sack at 10 pm (2 am in NH). What a day!
